Our Vertical Gardens, “The Green” collection, are the most innovative and sustainable locations in our portfolio. With 8 Vertical Gardens already across Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium, we have now launched the first UK Vertical Garden, marking a huge milestone.
Vertical Gardens not only help tackle climate change, but also deliver high impact advertising campaigns, with the creative space being bordered by a collection of colourful, luscious plants.
The Green – A40 Hanger Lane
As part of blowUP media’s sustainability pledge, a key focus area was to install the UK’s first dedicated and permanent Vertical Garden advertising space. The ambition was to ensure this groundbreaking sustainable site was in an area of high pollution, where the impact of a vertical garden would be greatest.
Among the most polluted areas of London, Hanger Lane has long been notorious for it’s poor air quality. A busy vehicular route frequented by over 110,000 cars a day, generating high volumes of CO2, this was the perfect space to fight pollution.
The banner will be surrounded by a 150m2 Vertical Garden and is made up of 6,000 plants, absorbing approximately 1.3t of CO2e annually, generating approximately 0.36t of oxygen in return.*

The Benefits of our Vertical Gardens
Vertical System
The wall is made from two layers of capillary matting (made from recycled clothes which do not rot).
Slits are cut into the outer felt and plants are tucked into them, stapling the opening to anchor the plants.
With this system plants don’t need soil to grow, they just need somewhere to anchor their roots and to receive water and nutrients. The recycled clothes felt replaces the soil and nutrients can be provided by the automatic irrigation system.

We’re proud to share that The Green – A40 Hanger Lane was awarded Silver in the Creative Special Effects – Paper, Board and Plastics category at the 2025 FESPA Awards in Berlin! The FESPA Awards celebrate excellence in print and signage, recognising standout creativity, innovation, and craftsmanship from around the globe.
Our entry showcased our sustainable Vertical Garden, delivered in partnership with GESS, highlighting how green innovation can transform outdoor advertising. This is a huge achievement for blowUP media as we continue to drive creativity and innovation across the industry.
